Out of character

Sometimes when someone does something shocking we say that it was 'out of character' for them. But last weekend we noted that what comes as a shock to us was often months - or years - in the making. It's one thing to talk about what's 'in character' and what's 'out of character.' But what is character? And how is it developed in our lives?

In 1 Timothy 3, Paul paints the most amazing picture of what life with God could be like for us. He talks about the character qualities that should be modeled by all leaders of Christians and that can be developed in the lives of all followers of Christ. For a second weekend, we're going to look at that picture and allow God to give us a lasting vision of the life that He has for each one of us. Please join us at any of our three weekend gatherings in Round Rock and in Austin.

It's 1st Wednesday!

1st Wednesday is a monthly interactive worship gathering where, among other things, we celebrate communion. Our theme for the next several months is Doors. We're going to walk throught Bible verses that refer to doors. Our text tonight is Revelation 4:1 and we'll be talking about a future event called the Rapture. Join us tonight at our North Austin campus for worship-in-the-round, Scripture readings, teaching, prayer, art, and communion. 1st Wednesday starts at 7 p.m. See you there!

Men. Women. God.

God created us in His own image and gave us gender: male and female. God must have purpose, beauty, and meaning in maleness and femaleness. Anything He says to or about men must be intended to help them discover and develop all that it means to be male. Anything He says to or about women must be intended to help them discover and develop all that it means to be female. But it couldn’t possibly stop there. What if, by embracing God's plan for them, men can help women discover and develop all that it means to be female? And what if, by embracing God's plan for them, women can help men discover and develop all that it means to be male? The church should be the one place on earth where, not only are men are affirmed in their maleness and women in their femaleness, but men help women become all that it means to be a woman and women help men become all that it means to a man. How do we do that? To learn more, join us this weekend at Calvary Austin as we continue the series Ekklesia with a message called Co-ed God.
